Burger King Vera Playa Opens This December
Published November 29, 2025 | Category: Community
TL;DR: Burger King Vera Playa will open just before Christmas, bringing the first major fast-food restaurant to the Levante coast along with new jobs and a convenient drive-thru service.
Burger King Arrives in Vera Playa: Opening Date, Location and Job Opportunities
Burger King Vera Playa is set to become the first major fast-food restaurant on the Levante coast, offering residents and visitors a new dining option right before the Christmas season. The restaurant is being built next to the Mercadona supermarket in La Media Legua, a strategic location between Vera, Garrucha, Villaricos and Mojacar.
Construction is progressing quickly, with prefabricated modules already in place. According to local press reports, the goal is to finish the main structure by December 17th and open to the public around December 20th. The restaurant will also include a full drive-thru lane, giving customers the option to order directly from their cars.
Job Vacancies Now Available
Several job openings for the new restaurant have already been published. Positions include kitchen staff, cashiers and drive-thru team members. The company offers permanent contracts, rotating shifts and salaries aligned with the hospitality sector agreement.
No previous experience is required, although it is considered an advantage. Employees who perform well may also have the opportunity to progress to management roles within a little over a year, depending on availability in the regional network.
A 2,000 m² Site With Parking and a Summer Terrace
The development covers a plot of approximately 2,000 square metres. It will include customer parking and an outdoor terrace for summer dining. Its location between Vera Playa and Garrucha ensures strong visibility and easy access from multiple towns along the coast.
A First for the Levante Coast
The arrival of Burger King Vera Playa marks a significant step for the area, which has long lacked major international fast-food chains despite having around 65,000 year-round residents. This number can double or even triple during the summer months.
While Telepizza has maintained a presence in Las Buganvillas, previous attempts by other chains—such as the now-closed Foster’s Hollywood in Mojacar were short-lived. The opening of this new Burger King may encourage more brands to consider the Levante coast in the future.

Junta Reinforces Slope Next to A-1207 Cycle Path in Vera
The Junta de Andalucía has started works to stabilise the slope next to the cycle and pedestrian path along the A-1207 in Vera. The intervention aims to resolve recent small landslides caused by erosion and weather, which had begun to affect the pavement and a busy cycling route.
The works cover the section between kilometre points 0.37 and 0.66 of the road and are funded with more than €48,000. During a visit to the site, the territorial delegate for Public Works and the mayor of Vera reviewed the progress of the project, which is being carried out under the supervision of the regional roads department.
The solution includes installing a prefabricated reinforced-concrete wall parallel to the cycle path. This structure is designed to protect users, stabilise the slope and improve the visual integration of the area. The route is heavily used throughout the year by residents, commuters and cyclists, making the reinforcement an important investment in local safety and infrastructure.

Disney in Almeria: The Forgotten Story of the Park That Almost Happened
Published November 28, 2025 | Category: Community
TL;DR: In the early 1980s, Disney seriously considered building a theme park in Almeria. The province was initially the chosen location, but internal political disputes across Spain ultimately cost Almeria the project, which later went to Paris.
When Disney Chose Almeria — And How the Dream Slipped Away
Disney in Almeria is one of the most fascinating “what if” stories in the province’s recent history. In late 1982, three Disney executives from the United States travelled to Almeria to explore the potential construction of a Disney theme park — a visit far from informal. According to accounts later recalled by Ramón Gómez Vivancos, then president of the Almería Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Navigation, Disney had already identified a preferred site and considered Almeria their leading candidate.
During their tour of the province, which included a lunch in El Alquián, the executives expressed a very clear judgement. As Gómez Vivancos remembered it, they told him: “Almeria is the chosen one; it’s the perfect province to set up shop.” Their preferred site was an area near Cabo de Gata, possibly where El Toyo stands today — another strong argument for why Disney in Almeria was once a very real possibility.
A Wider Competition for Disney in Almeria
While Almeria initially held the advantage, the situation changed as news of Disney’s interest spread. Other regions across Spain — including Seville, Tarragona, Castellón, Valencia and Alicante — began positioning themselves as alternatives. This internal competition weakened Almeria’s early lead.
Historical reports from that period, including coverage by the international news agency UPI, confirm that Spain was indeed one of the main candidates considered for Disney’s European project due to its climate and coastal locations. Several Spanish regions submitted strong proposals, each hoping to secure what was seen as one of the most transformative economic opportunities of the decade. Even today, official information from The Walt Disney Company highlights the scale of such international decisions.
“We Can’t Do It Because You Keep Fighting”
The growing rivalry ultimately tipped the balance. As tensions increased between the competing Spanish territories, Disney contacted Gómez Vivancos again to deliver the final decision. The message was brief, direct and definitive:
“We can’t do it because you keep fighting amongst yourselves.”
With Spain internally divided and unable to present a unified proposal, the project moved on. In the years that followed, Disney redirected its efforts toward France — a process that culminated in the creation of Disneyland Paris.
A Missed Opportunity That Still Resonates
For Almeria, the episode remains one of the most remarkable missed opportunities in its modern history. It is often mentioned alongside other famous local stories and near-miss megaprojects, such as the enduring myth linking Walt Disney and Mojácar. A Disney theme park would have redefined the province’s future, not because Almeria lacked appeal, but because agreement among Spanish regions proved impossible at a crucial moment.
More than four decades later, the story endures as a powerful reminder: Disney in Almeria came closer to reality than most people realise.

Whether you are furnishing a new villa, equipping a rental apartment, or simply replacing a few items, Embargos Bestiales offers a reliable, budget-friendly solution.
Ideal for Expats and New Homeowners
For expats settling in Southern Spain, equipping a home can be one of the biggest early expenses. Many new residents arrive to find their property unfurnished, or in need of renovation. At Embargos Bestiales Antas, buyers can quickly furnish an entire house without exceeding their budget. The store’s multilingual staff assist both Spanish and foreign customers, ensuring a smooth shopping experience. Items can be delivered throughout the province, and the store offers flexible payment options and guarantees on most major appliances. The relaxed, no-pressure environment makes it especially popular among Northern European buyers looking for good value and friendly service.
Constantly Changing Stock and Weekly Offers
With deliveries arriving weekly, the showroom’s layout and inventory evolve constantly. Regular visitors often remark that “it never looks the same twice.” The company’s buying network across Spain and Europe allows the Antas branch to bring in stylish, high-quality pieces that would normally cost far more elsewhere. Many customers choose to follow the official Facebook page to stay informed about new arrivals, weekend offers, and limited-time promotions. The dynamic nature of the stock gives each visit a sense of discovery—part warehouse sale, part treasure hunt.
Location and Opening Hours
Embargos Bestiales Antas is located on the Polígono Industrial El Real, just minutes from the A7/E15 motorway exit. Eco-Friendly and Smart Shopping
Beyond the savings, shopping at Embargos Bestiales also supports sustainability. Many of the items sold are overstock or unsold inventory that would otherwise go to waste. It’s an approach that aligns well with the eco-conscious mindset shared by many international residents in Almería.
