Best Time to Visit Almeria – Weather, Seasons and Crowds

Best Time to Visit Almeria

Almeria is known for its dry, sunny climate and mild winters, making it a year-round destination. That said, the best time to visit depends on what you want from your stay — beach time, outdoor activities, festivals, or simply avoiding crowds.

This guide breaks down the seasons in Almeria in practical terms, helping you decide when to visit based on weather, atmosphere, and how the province feels throughout the year.

Spring (March to May)

Spring is often considered one of the best times to visit Almeria. Daytime temperatures usually range between 20–25°C, making it comfortable for sightseeing, walking, and outdoor activities.

The countryside comes to life after winter rains, especially in inland areas and natural parks. Coastal towns are calm but open, and accommodation prices are generally lower than in summer.

March and early April are particularly quiet. Around Easter, visitor numbers increase slightly due to Semana Santa, but it rarely feels overcrowded compared to other parts of Spain.

Summer (June to August)

Summer in Almeria is hot, dry and very sunny. Daytime temperatures often exceed 35°C, especially inland and in the city. Coastal areas benefit from sea breezes, making beach destinations more comfortable than the interior.

This is peak season for beach holidays. Expect more visitors, higher accommodation prices, and a lively atmosphere in towns such as Mojacar, Roquetas de Mar, Vera Playa and Garrucha.

While the heat can limit daytime activities, evenings are vibrant. Local fiestas, open-air concerts and night-time social life are at their peak during the summer months.

Autumn (September to November)

Early autumn is one of the most pleasant periods to visit Almeria. September and October remain warm, with daytime temperatures around 25–30°C, and the sea stays warm enough for swimming.

Tourist numbers drop noticeably after August, creating a relaxed atmosphere without everything closing down. This is an excellent time for combining beach days with inland trips, village visits and nature excursions.

By November, temperatures cool slightly and evenings become fresher, but days are often still sunny and comfortable.

Winter (December to February)

Winters in Almeria are mild compared to most of Europe. Daytime temperatures typically range between 16–20°C, with plenty of sunshine. Rainfall is low, though occasional cooler days do occur.

Coastal resort areas may feel quieter, but cities such as Almeria and Roquetas de Mar remain active year-round. Winter is popular with long-stay visitors and people escaping colder northern climates.

While swimming is less common, winter is ideal for walking, cultural visits, local food experiences and exploring inland areas without heat or crowds.

Festivals and Seasonal Events

If your visit is linked to local culture or events, timing can make a difference:

  • Semana Santa (March/April) – Religious processions across towns and cities, especially noticeable in Almeria city
  • Feria de Almeria (August) – A major city-wide celebration with concerts, fairgrounds and events
  • Summer village fiestas – June to September, varying by municipality
  • Christmas and New Year – A calm but festive period with lights, markets and family events

So, When Is the Best Time to Visit?

For most visitors, spring and autumn offer the best balance of weather, atmosphere and flexibility. Summer suits beach-focused trips and festival lovers, while winter is ideal for longer stays, outdoor walks and a slower pace of life.

Almeria doesn’t have a single “perfect” season — it simply offers different experiences throughout the year.
