Christmas Celebrations in Albox
Published December 22, 2025 | Category: Events
TL;DR: Christmas celebrations in Albox centre around a strong nativity scene tradition, with several public, family and school displays spread across the town, reflecting a deeply rooted community custom.
Christmas Celebrations in Albox: Four Nativity Scenes You Shouldn’t Miss
Christmas in Albox is shaped not only by lights and events, but by a long-standing tradition of creating and sharing nativity scenes throughout the town. Each year, public spaces, religious sites, family homes and schools come together to present different interpretations of the Nativity, turning Albox into a place where Christmas is experienced through craftsmanship and community spirit.
These nativity scenes form part of the wider festive programme covered in our previous article Christmas in Albox, which brings together the town’s key events and traditions during the holiday season.
The Monumental Nativity Scene “Enrique Miras”
The most prominent nativity scene in Albox is the Monumental Nativity Scene “Enrique Miras”, traditionally marking the start of the town’s Christmas programme. Opened this year on December 4, it stands as one of the most recognisable Christmas displays in the municipality.
For many years, this monumental nativity scene formed part of Albox’s cultural identity before disappearing in 2016. The town spent seven Christmas seasons without it, until the tradition was revived during the 2023 holidays thanks to the efforts of the Friends of the Three Kings association and the dedication of local resident Enrique Miras, after whom the scene is now named.
The nativity scene can be visited daily from Monday to Sunday, between 11:00–14:00 and 17:00–20:00, at Plaza de San Francisco.
The Nativity Scene at the Sanctuary of El Saliente
The Sanctuary of El Saliente also takes part in the Christmas celebrations each year with a more classical-style nativity scene. Known for its finely crafted figures and attention to detail, this display recreates everyday life in Jerusalem at the time of Christ’s birth.
Market scenes, daily work and richly detailed surroundings bring the setting to life, with a wide variety of flora and fauna contributing to an immersive experience that invites visitors to explore the scene at a slower pace.
The nativity scene is open to the public from Wednesday to Sunday, from 10:30–14:00, with additional afternoon visiting hours on Fridays and Saturdays from 16:00–18:00, within the sanctuary grounds.
Family Nativity Scenes in Albox
Beyond public and religious spaces, family-run nativity scenes play an important role in Christmas celebrations in Albox. Several families open their displays to neighbours and visitors, adding a personal and creative layer to the town’s festive route.
The García Fernández family has been exhibiting their nativity scene for more than ten years. Their display is known for its originality, featuring unusual elements such as the birth of a sheep and figures with distinctly Egyptian influences.
The Tartala family also presents a large and carefully constructed nativity scene each year, the result of nearly three months of preparation. Their display incorporates movement, a recycled water circuit forming a river, four moving figures and numerous new details added for this Christmas.
Nativity Scenes Created by Local Schools
Local schools in Albox also contribute to keeping the tradition alive. Both CEIP Velázquez and CEIP Virgen del Saliente have displayed nativity scenes created with the involvement of students and teachers.
At CEIP Velázquez, the nativity scene has been exhibited for many years and is traditionally handcrafted with the help of the school’s former caretaker, who continues to assist in creating the settings where the figures tell the Christmas story.
At CEIP Virgen del Saliente, students themselves create the figures, buildings and decorations. Each year, teachers choose a specific material for the project; this Christmas, modelling clay was used, with different classes collaborating to ensure that every element of the scene was represented.
A Living Christmas Tradition
Through public installations, family efforts and school projects, Christmas celebrations in Albox remain a shared cultural experience. The town’s nativity scenes reflect a tradition that blends faith, creativity, education and community involvement, reinforcing a sense of continuity that has been passed down through generations.
For visitors during the festive season, exploring these nativity scenes offers a meaningful way to experience Christmas in Albox beyond decorations and events — rooted in tradition and shaped by the people who keep it alive.

Rain shortens Three Kings Parade in Huércal-Overa, but celebrations continue
Huércal-Overa marked Three Kings’ Day with a full programme of activities despite persistent rain. Although weather conditions required a shorter parade route, families still gathered along the streets to welcome the Kings.
The main procession took place in the afternoon, following a reduced route through the town centre before ending earlier than planned as rainfall intensified. Local brass bands accompanied the parade, maintaining a festive atmosphere even as conditions worsened.
Earlier in the day, the Kings had already visited several local institutions, including the hospital and care centres, where residents and patients were able to greet them in a quieter and more personal setting.
The day concluded with a reception at the town’s theatre, where children handed over their letters before the celebrations came to a close. Despite the rain, Three Kings’ Day once again remained a key date on Huércal-Overa’s local calendar.

The day began in the morning in smaller population centres, with visits across the Almanzora area before moving through a series of villages spread across the municipality. As the hours passed, the route gradually shifted towards the coastal towns.
The celebrations concluded later in the afternoon in Villaricos and Palomares, where larger receptions were held for families and children. Despite earlier concerns about the weather, turnout remained steady throughout the day, underlining the importance of Three Kings’ Day in Cuevas del Almanzora.
