Accessible Parking at the Almeria Feria

Visitors with disabilities had access to free parking close to the Almeria Feria this year through a service organised by Verdiblanca. The association waived the parking charge for vehicles displaying the official card issued by the Junta de Andalucia, offering an alternative to the flat-rate fee set by Almeria City Council.

The council’s standard charge was €4 from 6pm until 7am. Verdiblanca, however, chose not to collect that fee from drivers who could show the required official card. The arrangement covered the nine days of the Feria, from 21 to 29 August.

Where the spaces were located

Verdiblanca offered more than 270 free parking spaces in front of the fairground. The association also added 20 spaces at the car park beside the Union Deportiva Almeria stadium. These were in addition to approximately 30 spaces already reserved for people with reduced mobility in that parking area.

The stadium car park is surfaced and accessible, with pedestrian access to the Feria from two nearby exits. One is on the south side, facing the fairground entrance, while the other is on the east side. Their position was intended to make the walk to the event easier for visitors using the accessible parking area.

For anyone planning to use the service, the key requirement was straightforward: the vehicle needed to carry the official disability card issued by the Junta de Andalucia. Drivers were expected to present the card when using the free parking arrangement.

More than 2,000 spaces managed

Verdiblanca was also responsible for managing more than 2,000 parking spaces around the Feria during the same period. Its team worked each night under the slogan “No des mas vueltas!” and helped organise vehicles across three areas made available by the city council.

These locations included the stadium car park, a site on Calle Mezquita with 350 spaces near the McDonald’s roundabout, and another car park on Calle Alga Azul, opposite the Patatas Salcedo warehouse. The latter provided 370 spaces.

The association’s staff also controlled several nearby access points, helping to direct vehicles and keep traffic moving around the event. This was particularly relevant on Feria evenings, when parking demand and vehicle movements are concentrated around the fairground.

A supported employment service

The parking operation involved around 30 workers with disabilities or people in vulnerable situations. Their responsibilities included organising the parking areas and overseeing access points near the Feria.

For visitors, that means the service was not only about finding a space. It also formed part of Verdiblanca’s wider work to support access to employment for people at risk of social exclusion. Antonio Sanchez de Amo, president of Verdiblanca, said the operation had become a recognised service in the community and reflected growing awareness of the association’s work in social and employment integration.

The arrangement applied to the Feria dates stated above, rather than representing a general year-round parking policy. Visitors attending future events should check the current conditions, including whether free access is available and which official documentation is accepted.
