TL;DR: Almería remains a top destination in the Imserso senior travel program for 2026-2027, with eight hotels confirmed on the Andalusian coastal list and a strong presence centered on Roquetas de Mar and Mojácar .
Almería’s Imserso Hotels and Destinations
Imserso Season Opens with Strong Almería Lineup
The nationwide senior tourism program of Imserso begins its 2026-2027 season commercialisation from 14 September, offering nearly 880,000 places across Spain. For Almería, the program continues to be a solid draw: eight hotels in the coastal Andalusian lineup—a figure matched only by Málaga—maintaining the province’s appeal for Imserso travelers. This season starts with a confirmed trip date of 1 October, heading to Oropesa del Mar in Castellón, but Almería’s reputation as a leading destination for senior coastal holidays keeps it high on the list.
The official booking window opened for preferred residents in nine communities, including Andalucía, with subsequent dates for other applicants following in a phased manner through 19 September. Booking demand is particularly fierce during the first 72 hours, especially for popular spots like Roquetas and Mojácar, where most of Almería’s Imserso hotel capacity is based.
Roquetas de Mar Anchors Almería’s Imserso Offer
The town of Roquetas de Mar continues to be the powerhouse for Almería’s Imserso tourism. Of the 16 hotels historically involved in the program across the province, eleven are located here, making it the central hub of activity. Visitors can expect 4-star hotels offering full-board accommodation and varied entertainment options, typically for stays ranging between 7 to 9 nights.
Last season, Roquetas and its neighbouring Aguadulce alone drew over 62,000 requests across twelve establishments, underscoring the area’s sustained popularity. Mojácar adds another dimension with three hotels and around 16,000 places available, highlighting the coastal appeal of Almería beyond Roquetas. The combination of beaches, amenities, and welcoming local atmosphere keeps senior tourists coming back year after year.
Wider Province Involvement and Booking Details
Beyond its role as a top destination, Almería also participates in the Imserso program as a province of origin, with a quota of places proportional to its population of seniors. While specific figures for 2026-2027 are not yet official, the principle remains consistent: during the first booking phase (14-18 September), residents can only book within Almería’s assigned quota, with national repesan access opening on the 19th. This system helps balance demand and availability across regions.
The program’s scope extends beyond the eight coastal hotels officially listed, with a broader signed contract including 15 hotels connected to Ávoris, a key Imserso operator. In addition to the core eight, there are establishments like Alegría Colonial Mar, Almerimar, and Bahía Serena primarily around Roquetas, plus Best Mojácar and Vértice Indalo based in Mojácar itself. This expanded selection offers more options for travelers seeking to enjoy Almería’s diverse coastal experiences.
Local Impact and Continuity in Imserso’s Program
Almería’s involvement in the Imserso program has a significant economic and social footprint. In recent documented seasons, Andalucía received the highest number of Imserso visitors nationally, with Almería generating around €20 million and supporting 5,500 jobs linked to the program. Roquetas de Mar alone accounts for roughly two-thirds of the province’s Imserso activity.
The current season continues under the existing contractual extension arrangements, valued at €58.6 million (excluding VAT) through Ávoris and Mundicolor agencies. The official list of hotels is published by Turismo Social and Mundicolor ahead of the season’s start, providing travelers and agents with reliable, up-to-date options.
For local residents and visitors alike, this ongoing program means that Almería’s coastline remains a vibrant, accessible destination for senior tourism, blending established infrastructure with the natural charm that locals appreciate year-round. Whether staying in Roquetas, Mojácar, or Aguadulce, travelers can expect a welcoming atmosphere backed by a strong network of Imserso-approved accommodations.
