TL;DR: Almeria’s hotels ended August at 85% average occupancy, while September is currently expected to reach around 70%, with late bookings likely to change the final figure.

Almeria hotels eye a busy September

Hotels across Almeria province finished August with an average occupancy rate of 85%, according to figures gathered by the Asociación Provincial de Empresarios de Hostelería de Almeria (Ashal). For visitors planning a break this month, the outlook remains positive, although the booking pattern is becoming harder to predict.

Ashal currently expects September occupancy across the province to be close to 70%. That figure includes the wider Almeria area and the Parque Natural de Cabo de Gata-Nijar, where the association describes the prospects as more favourable than in some other parts of the market.

The figures suggest that September can still offer a busy tourism scene beyond the peak summer period. However, travellers should not assume that all available rooms will be booked far in advance, as a growing share of reservations is now being made close to the arrival date.

August results across Almeria

The province recorded an average hotel occupancy of 85% during August. In the municipality of Almeria, including its coastal area, the rate was slightly lower, ranging between 81% and 83%.

These figures point to strong demand during the main summer month, both in the capital and across the province. They also show why September may appeal to visitors looking beyond the busiest part of the season, while still benefiting from a level of demand that Ashal considers encouraging.

For anyone arranging accommodation in Almeria city or along the nearby coast, the August figures provide useful context, but they should not be treated as a guarantee of availability for September. Hotel demand is changing quickly, and the final position will depend heavily on bookings made later in the month.

September bookings remain flexible

Confirmed reservations for September currently represent approximately 49% of the available figure. Ashal expects that number to improve significantly because last-minute booking has become increasingly common.

Demand is particularly concentrated on the first two weekends of September. After that point, advance reservations fall, meaning the eventual occupancy levels will depend more heavily on late decisions by travellers.

This pattern may be useful for visitors who have not yet fixed their plans, although it also means that the booking picture can change quickly. The current forecast is around 70% for the province, but the association has stressed that early figures do not tell the whole story when so many reservations are being made close to the stay.

Ashal has described its expectations for September as reasonably positive, especially across the province. The association hopes the month will help extend the tourism season beyond the central summer period.

Occupancy and spending differ

The hotel figures do not necessarily reflect the full performance of the tourism sector. Ashal has observed that, particularly in the capital, visitors are taking longer to decide whether to book accommodation and are also showing greater restraint in spending on additional services and eating out.

That distinction is important. A strong occupancy rate means that many rooms are being filled, but it does not automatically produce an equivalent increase in sector turnover. The association has specifically warned that good hotel occupancy and higher overall revenue are not always the same thing.

For visitors, the message is therefore mixed but useful: September demand in Almeria looks healthy, particularly during its first two weekends, while the wider month remains dependent on late bookings. The province, including Cabo de Gata-Nijar, is expected to perform well, but the final figures will only become clearer as more travellers make their plans.
