Senior Beachfront Bungalows Planned in Carboneras

Beachfront Homes for Seniors

A fresh residential development aimed at people over 55 is set to transform the beachfront area of El Lancon in Carboneras. The project will feature 66 bungalows designed for rental occupancy, making it the first senior-focused apartment complex in the town. The initiative comes from Construloviz, a local construction company based in Alhama de Almeria, which already manages senior residences in the area.

European Funds and Local Investment

This senior residential project has secured a total investment of around €6.3 million, supported by a €2.4 million subsidy from European Just Transition funds. These funds are part of a regional compensation plan due to the dismantling of the Endesa thermal power plant. The backing from these sources has been key to bringing the project to life after similar concepts had been considered but not realized in the past.

Rebuilding on Historic Foundations

The development will be constructed on the site of the former Villa del Mar urbanization, once owned by a British investment group. Alongside the new apartments, four existing apartments and a two-story house on the property will be renovated as part of the project. Local company Construloviz, led by siblings José Manuel, Carlos, and María Rosa López Vizcaino, also runs two senior care facilities in Alhama de Almeria and Aguadulce and plans to open a new centre in Almerimar early next year.

Job Creation and Community Impact

José Manuel López highlights the project’s aim to generate employment, estimating that over 20 new jobs will be created through the construction and operation of the complex. This development joins other recent investments in Carboneras, such as the new five-star Hotel Aqaba Cabo de Gata, which features 54 rooms and represents a €10 million plus investment by local and regional investors.

Broader Regional Developments

Further investments in the area include a pending coworking and innovation centre with temporary accommodation, supported by Just Transition funds with a €127,000 budget. This facility, driven by entrepreneur José Luis Ruiz Martín, is intended to support startups and technology ventures. Together, these projects reflect a broader push to diversify and modernize Carboneras and its surroundings, enhancing services and opportunities for both residents and visitors.
