TL;DR: A cold air mass over the Mediterranean will trigger rain and thunderstorms across much of Almeria until Friday, with the highest chances in the northern and interior towns.
Rain and Storms Forecast for Almeria
Weather Shift from Summer Heat
After a warm Tuesday across Almeria province, the weather will change abruptly starting Wednesday. A trough of low pressure linked to a surge of cold air will settle over the Mediterranean Sea, breaking the current summer heat. This pattern will bring several days of unsettled weather to much of eastern Spain, including Almeria.
Areas Most at Risk
The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has issued a yellow alert for parts of the Almanzora Valley and the Los Velez region for Wednesday. These northern and interior parts of Almeria are expected to see occasional showers and thunderstorms, especially from midday onwards.
Towns such as Laujar de Andarax, Ohanes, Abla, and Macael are among those with a 95 to 100 percent chance of rain. Other localities like Albox, Seron, Bacares, and Maria will face similarly high probabilities.
Rain Continues Through Thursday
The unsettled conditions will persist into Thursday, with precipitation becoming more general across the province. The western areas (Poniente) will see a 75 to 85 percent chance of rainfall, while northern and some central towns face probabilities of 90 to 100 percent.
Communities including Tabernas, Gerga, and Huercal-Overa should remain alert for storms. Meanwhile, the eastern coastal towns such as Mojacar, Vera, and Garrucha will be somewhat less affected, with about an 8 percent chance of rain.
Friday Brings More Showers
The forecast remains largely unchanged on Friday, with rain and storms likely to continue across most of Almeria, except for the capital city, Roquetas de Mar, and Carboneras. These areas have a 70 to 85 percent chance of experiencing wet weather as the trough continues to influence local conditions.
Local Impact and Precautions
This return of stormy weather after weeks of summer heat could affect outdoor activities and travel plans in the affected towns. Residents and visitors are advised to stay updated with local weather alerts from Aemet and prepare for sudden changes during the next few days, particularly in the northern and mountainous areas where storms and showers are expected to be most intense.
