TL;DR: Almerimar’s sports complex project moves forward with two new phases approved, adding key sporting and community facilities with a combined investment exceeding 4.1 million euros.
New Developments at Almerimar Sports Complex
Advancing the Sports Complex
The local government has greenlit the second and third phases of the Almerimar Sports Complex, pushing the overall project beyond 15 million euros in total investment. These developments follow a phased plan devised in partnership between the Diputacion de Almeria and the local town council, designed to build out the complex in manageable stages that meet both current and future community needs. Each phase has an independent budget and timeline, with work scheduled to be completed within six months per phase.
Details of Phases II and III
Phase II, with a budget close to 2.87 million euros, focuses on completing the main building’s auxiliary facilities by adding changing rooms and expanding the outdoor area. New features will include a football pitch accompanied by spectator stands, a calisthenics zone, and a playground area. These installations will enhance the complex’s capacity to host a variety of sports and recreational activities.
Phase III, budgeted at over 1.3 million euros, will finalise the complex by constructing a parking area, a multipurpose space, a scenic viewpoint, and a perimeter running circuit. This finishing phase will significantly enhance accessibility and usability, accommodating both everyday users and visitors during special sporting events.
Current Progress and Community Benefits
The first phase is well underway, with more than 70% already completed. It has delivered key facilities such as the main pavilion, an indoor multipurpose court, and outdoor tennis and padel courts. Additional amenities include rooms for activities and fitness alongside a gym, playroom, and cafeteria.
Mayor Julia Ibanez emphasised the importance of the continuing work, highlighting that these phases mark a crucial step toward completing a highly anticipated project. Once finished, the complex will expand the town’s sports offerings and provide essential spaces for a wide range of physical activities and community events. The aim is to create modern, functional, and accessible facilities that serve both regular users and event organisers.
Wider Infrastructure Improvements in Almerimar
Alongside the sports complex expansion, the local government approved other improvements to municipal services. A new two-year contract has been set to supply uniforms and equipment for the local police force with an annual budget exceeding 200,000 euros. This contract covers a full range of items, including clothing such as caps, polos, jackets, pants, and footwear, as well as essential gear like belts, holsters, handcuffs, and batons. The objective is to ensure that police officers remain properly equipped to perform their duties effectively.
Spokesperson Jose Francisco Rivera underscored the need to maintain up-to-date gear, framing this as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen municipal resources for public safety and service quality.
Through these initiatives, Almerimar continues to enhance its community infrastructure, reinforcing both recreational and essential public services in the town.
