New Cruise Terminal Construction Underway at Almeria Port
Contract Awarded for Terminal Construction
The Almeria Port Authority has officially awarded the contract for the development of a new cruise terminal at the southwestern section of the Maritime Station. The project, valued at nearly 690,000 euros including VAT, will be undertaken by the company Transformaciones y Embalses Parra. Actual construction is scheduled to begin shortly, with a completion timeline set at four months once works commence.
Features of the New Terminal
The terminal will cover over 422 square meters and be designed specifically to serve cruise passengers. It will consist of a two-story building featuring a panoramic elevator. The ground floor will have a private entrance with access control, ensuring secure check-in processes. The upper level is set to function as a spacious waiting area, equipped with internet access and charging stations, alongside a tourist information point to support visitors’ needs. The terminal will also include refurbished facilities for local security forces, enhancing operational coordination at the port.
Port Area Improvements and Sustainability Efforts
Besides the cruise terminal itself, the Almeria Port Authority is undertaking wider improvements focused on the architectural appearance of the Maritime Station and adjacent buildings. These updates tie into ongoing initiatives aimed at opening up the port to the city and improving energy efficiency. The work forms part of a broader sustainability commitment by the port administration, reflecting growing environmental considerations in infrastructure projects.
Ongoing Building Projects at the Port
In parallel, a joint venture between Ferrer and GMÁSP is preparing the design and execution plans for projects covering four key structures. These include the Maritime Station, with a total built area exceeding 8,200 square meters, a multipurpose services building of 647 square meters, and two smaller annex buildings measuring 481 and 244 square meters respectively. This comprehensive development strategy demonstrates the port’s focus on modernization and functional expansion.
The new cruise terminal and associated works are designed to accommodate increasing cruise traffic and contribute to making Almeria a more accessible and welcoming port of call. The infrastructure upgrade is expected to bring tangible benefits to the local economy by better connecting visitors with the city and improving the overall passenger experience.
