TL;DR: Vélez-Rubio hosts its first immersive ‘Viral Zombie’ survival game on October 3rd, offering a thrilling night where participants navigate the town while escaping actors dressed as zombies, blending adventure with local heritage exploration.
Velez-Rubio’s Zombie Survival Night
An Overnight Zombie Experience
On the night of Saturday, October 3rd, Velez-Rubio will transform into a thrilling scene of zombie chaos during its inaugural ‘Viral Zombie’ event. This five-hour immersive experience runs from 11 pm until 4 am and promises to plunge participants into a gripping survival story set against the backdrop of the town’s streets. Unlike passive spectatorship, those involved will become active players, tasked with outrunning zombies, solving puzzles, and completing challenges as the narrative unfolds across multiple locations.
Engaging Youth Through Interactive Play
The event targets young people, with local authorities anticipating between 200 and 300 participants eager to dive into this unique adventure. Concepcion Perez, Velez-Rubio’s Culture Councillor, highlighted the event’s appeal after witnessing a similar experience in Aguilas. She underlined its potential not only as an entertaining activity but also as a way to encourage physical exercise and social collaboration among teenagers. The game mixes elements of adventure, roleplay, and interactive challenges to create a dynamic evening where participants must make strategic decisions while immersed in a fictional zombie apocalypse.
Exploring Velez-Rubio’s Heritage
A distinctive feature of ‘Viral Zombie’ is how it incorporates the town’s cultural landmarks into the game’s storyline. Organisers worked closely with the town hall to select key locations that enhance the experience and showcase Velez-Rubio’s heritage. The adventure will wind through well-known city spots such as Plaza de la Encarnacion and the Museo Miguel Guirao, with the Casa de la Juventud serving as both the starting point and the final destination for players. This approach offers participants more than just thrills; it also invites them to appreciate the town’s architecture and history in a novel way.
Tickets and Conduct
Initial ticket sales indicate strong interest, with the first 100 tickets priced at 15 euros already selling quickly according to Perez. Following these, advance tickets will cost 18 euros, and at the door, the price rises to 25 euros. Tickets can be purchased at the local tourist office or through the official Viral Zombie website. Importantly, the organisers promote the event as a safe and healthy environment with a clear message: ‘Have fun without alcohol’. The experience encourages enjoyment through physical activity, teamwork, and storytelling rather than alcohol consumption.
A New Nightlife Offering
This event represents a fresh option for nocturnal entertainment in Velez-Rubio, combining exercise, community engagement, and the thrill of immersive theatre. By inviting residents and visitors alike to participate actively in the streets at night, the town aims to broaden its cultural and leisure offerings while providing a memorable and unique experience for young people. With a strategic mix of storytelling, local culture, and friendly competition, ‘Viral Zombie’ is set to become a standout event in Velez-Rubio’s calendar.
