Jazz Concerts Across Eleven Almeria Towns

Provincial Jazz Circuit Brings Varied Styles

The Provincial Government of Almeria is once again promoting jazz throughout the region with its latest edition of the Circuito Provincial de Jazz, complemented by the educational project ‘Ilusionando con el Jazz.’ This year, seven concerts are part of the circuit, with two already completed in Gador and Seron. Upcoming performances will take place in Carboneras, Abrucena, Abla, Paterna del Rio, and Laujar de Andarax.

This series stands out for its diverse blend of genres. Alongside jazz, audiences can experience elements of flamenco, classical music, soul, fado, and gospel woven into the performances. One notable artist is pianist and composer Andres Barrios, who has gained international recognition and was nominated for a Latin Grammy in 2025 for Best Flamenco Album. Barrios, known for blending flamenco, jazz, and classical influences, recently released his work ‘Marea Viva’.

Another highlight is Antonio Lizana, recognized for his flamenco jazz style. Lizana, who has taken his music to over 30 countries, performed in Seron with his ensemble, showcasing the rich cultural fusion characteristic of the event.

Local Talent and Collaborative Performances

The program casts a spotlight on Almerian artists such as Mar Tiago and Jose Luis Jaen, both winners of the Canal Sur talent show ‘Tierra de Talento’. They will perform in Carboneras, Abrucena, and Paterna del Rio. Mar Tiago merges flamenco, jazz, soul, and fado in her music, while Jose Luis Jaen brings a powerful voice and jazz-inspired nuances to bolero classics. Their music aims to connect jazz with styles familiar to local audiences, making the genre more accessible.

Complementing the lineup, the Clasijazz Gospel Choir, directed by Noemi Perez, delivers shows in Abla and Laujar de Andarax. This Almerian group blends gospel with jazz and other musical influences, shaped by Perez’s extensive experience in New York’s gospel scene. Their performances add a spiritual and uplifting layer to the circuit’s musical offerings.

Educational Outreach with Ilusionando con el Jazz

The ‘Ilusionando con el Jazz’ initiative emphasizes education and community engagement, focusing particularly on rural areas. It fosters connections between local bands and experienced jazz artists, encouraging artistic growth and jazz appreciation across the province.

This part of the program kicks off with two educational concerts featuring the Clasijazz Gospel Choir and Noemi Perez, scheduled in Velez Rubio and Tijola. These concerts invite audiences to explore North American roots of the genre, including rhythm, harmony, and the distinctive characteristics of gospel music.

Furthering the collaborative spirit, the project organizes jazz encounters designed as exchange spaces for musicians coming from a band tradition and seasoned jazz performers. The first of these meetings will take place in Alhama de Almeria, featuring Big Bandarax—a young jazz project founded in 2015 under the Gador Music Association with support from Clasijazz. Big Bandarax has rapidly gained traction, appearing in both national and international festivals, and represents a fresh voice in Almeria’s jazz scene.

A Rich Calendar for Jazz Lovers

With this broad range of concerts and educational activities, Almeria’s jazz circuit offers something for both seasoned jazz fans and newcomers alike. The involvement of internationally recognized artists alongside local talents gives the province a lively and inclusive musical atmosphere throughout the months ahead. It also offers visitors and residents the chance to experience a unique fusion of genres and styles across multiple towns, encouraging cultural exchange and highlighting the vitality of jazz in this Mediterranean region.

By spreading events throughout small and medium-sized municipalities, the provincial government ensures that jazz is not confined to larger cities but becomes a shared cultural experience, strengthening the artistic fabric of Almeria.
