September celebrations in Dalias

Dalias is getting ready for one of the most important periods in its local calendar: the Fiestas in honour of the Santisimo Cristo de la Luz. The main celebrations will take place from 12 to 20 September, while a series of earlier events will begin on 4 September.

The festivities are closely linked to the town’s identity and traditions. In a message shared on social media, Dalias Town Hall described September as more than a month on the calendar, presenting it as a season shaped by devotion, emotion and shared local customs.

A new festival poster

The official programme and poster were presented on 29 August at the Plaza de las Flores. The artwork was created by Almeria artist Cris Lara Martin, who specialises in watercolour illustration.

The poster places the image of the Cristo de la Luz at the centre, accompanied by a bunch of tuberose flowers. The arches of the square frame the rockets released by the local peñas, while the background includes the small guard post and the balloons traditionally released as the procession begins.

The image brings together several recognisable scenes associated with the celebrations. It was presented as a visual summary of the customs and moments that form part of the September festivities in Dalias.

The presentation also brought together representatives of the town council, the Casino Dalias and the Real y Muy Ilustre Hermandad del Santisimo Cristo de la Luz. Mayor Francisco Lirola spoke about sharing the official launch with the brotherhood and the Casino, and highlighted the part played by local residents in making the celebrations larger and more meaningful for the town.

Music and new activities

María Dolores Gómez, the councillor for culture, outlined the programme and pointed to several of its main additions. These include a hot-air balloon, a dog show and concerts covering different musical styles.

The announced live music programme includes performances by Laura Gallego and Oscar el Ruso, as well as a Flamenco Festival. The information released so far identifies these as some of the principal musical features, alongside the other activities planned for the wider celebrations.

The programme is not limited to the central religious events. The opening days include entertainment, live performances and community activities in different parts of the municipality, giving residents and visitors several ways to join in before the main festivities begin.

Events before 12 September

The first preview event is scheduled for Friday 4 September. Known as Calentando Motores, it will see musicians from the Asociacion Musico Cultural Daliense visit the terraces of bars and restaurants around the town. The event traditionally marks the countdown to the fiestas through live music in the streets and hospitality areas.

On Saturday 5 September, the Gran Divershow Prix will begin at 17:00. Six teams will take part in a competition built around skill, humour and physical challenges. The listed tests include the Pista Americana, Bola Loca and Toro Mecanico.

Later that day, at 19:00, the Plaza Ricardo Rubi in Celin will host the eighth edition of the Alpujarrako Fest. The announced line-up includes Jokin M.C.D., Fuckop Family, Lucy and Txulapos Muertos, among others. Tickets are available through the festival organisation’s website.

The brotherhood address

The programme of lead-in events continues on Sunday 6 September at the parish church of Santa Maria de Ambrox. Sergio Morante Lucas, a journalist and presenter with Canal Sur, will deliver the 23rd Pregón de la Hermandad del Cristo de la Luz.

This address traditionally serves as an important moment for the brotherhood’s programme and provides a formal introduction to the celebrations that follow. With the first events beginning on 4 September and the main fiestas running from 12 to 20 September, Dalias is entering a month centred on the Cristo de la Luz and the traditions shared across the town.
