Storm Kristin has caused widespread disruption across the province of Almeria, with emergency services responding to hundreds of incidents linked to strong winds, heavy rain and coastal conditions.

According to the Andalusian Emergency Agency (EMA 112), at least 250 incidents have been recorded in Almeria alone. Most were related to fallen trees and branches, unstable street furniture, damaged signs, flooding and isolated problems on the road network.

Orange and yellow weather alerts remain active

Several inland areas, including Nacimiento, Campo de Tabernas, the Almanzora Valley and Los Velez, have remained under orange or yellow wind alerts. The Almeria coastline has also been affected by warnings for coastal phenomena due to strong westerly winds and heavy seas.

The AL-5405 road, which connects Almeria with Granada, has been placed under a black alert due to snow and ice, with traffic restrictions and calls for extreme caution.

Mojacar and inland towns report local damage

In Mojacar, wind gusts of up to 100 km/h caused trees to fall, large branches to break and waste containers to overturn, creating dangerous conditions for pedestrians and drivers. Municipal services, firefighters, the Civil Guard and Local Police were deployed to secure affected areas and clear debris.

Local authorities urged residents to avoid unnecessary travel, particularly in coastal and wooded areas, while inspection and cleanup work continued the following day.

Damage reported at Torrecardenas Hospital

In Almeria city, strong winds exceeding 90 km/h caused material damage at Torrecardenas University Hospital, where eight large windows were blown out between the Maternity and Children’s Hospital and the outpatient building. No injuries were reported.

As a precaution, several hospital areas were temporarily closed or reorganised. Patients from nearby rooms were relocated, and access routes were modified while inspections were carried out. Hospital services continued to operate.

The storm also disrupted public transport, with changes to the Surbus line 20 after a sinkhole blocked access to Cuevas de los Medina, leaving several stops temporarily out of service.

Nearly 3,000 incidents across Andalusia

Across Andalusia, EMA 112 has coordinated a total of 2,966 incidents since the start of the storm. The most affected provinces were Cadiz, Seville and Jaen, with flooding, landslides, power outages and preventive evacuations reported in several areas.

The Andalusian Regional Government has activated emergency response plans for flood risk and civil protection and continues to monitor the situation closely.

Authorities urge continued caution

Weather alerts are expected to continue into the weekend, with further warnings for strong winds and rough seas. Emergency services are advising residents to avoid unnecessary travel, secure loose objects and follow official updates.
